About the event
The Legacy Continues.. signifies the theme for the 2nd Annual RVA Black Theatre Festival presented by the Critical Race Theatre Project (CRTP). Founders Sharalyn Garrard and Toney Cobb look to keep the traditions of black theatre alive by presenting an entire weekend of theatrical plays, stage readings, and musical performances. The Legacy Continues focuses on CRTP’s mission to continue the tradition of supporting prominent black storytellers as well as inspiring the next generation to pursue an interest in developing new stories as well. This year’s Festival will include original plays from new comer Nora Ogunleye, returning crowd favorite Joshua D. Harris, as well as classics from acclaimed directors Sharalyn Garrard and L. Roi Boyd III, and a special guest appearance from playwright E. (Emily) Claudette Freeman! Both days will feature a music and dance presentation curated by artist/songwriter Joshua “Dai Dream” Harris and company.
